Prayer for Dave Jandik

Just a note to give you an update. Dave's pain medicines seem to be wearing off faster and faster. We were in the ER on Saturday because the Vicodin was not helping. They put him on a new medicine. He is home as the new medicine seems to be working, although it too seems not to be working as effectively as in the beginning. His sodium levels are quite low. We often set the timer and make him drink more Gatorade every 30 minutes. He is going through quite a few 20 oz bottles. He eats very little. We feel we have accomplished something great if he eats a 1/2 c. cream of wheat and a 1/2 c. of jello in a day's time.
He shuffles around pretty well, but does so quite slowly. He can no longer read as his vision is blurry from the medicine. Speech is slow and weak- sounding and his thinking processes also show affects of the medication.
Marty and I read the Bible or other articles and books to him. He occasionally will watch a bowl game for awhile. He does not communicate too much, which is quite unusual for Dave.
We go to Henry Ford this Thursday in the afternoon. Dave's brother, John, will be taking us. They will tell us at that time possible plans and treatments for his pancreatic cancer.

We just got a call that a friend, Sharon Barker passed away this morning about 4:00 a.m. She had suffered for over a year with cancer. She was a dear friend of our family and several others of our congregation. Sharon was definitely a woman of God and loved to work with children and Women's ministries.

Our prayer is for her husband, daughter and extended family at this time. They are rejoicing in her home-going, however it is a tough time of year to lose someone you love. She and her husband did not have any insurance and we are sure that this will be a heavy burden on him financially.

Prayer for Joyce Ulis

Joyce is not doing very well. Today she was put on oxygen 24 hours a day by her regular doctor. Yesterday I took her to the pulmonary cardiologist and he said her case is very complicated. She is having a terrible time breathing and is retaining fluid and her kidneys are failing. She had been doing pretty well until 3 or 4 days ago and then she has gone down hill very quickly.

Young Boy in Class

A boy in my classroom was discovered with a mass around his heart. Doctors have not been able to get a clear picture of what it is on the first MRI and CAT Scan. He will be going to Detroit or Ann Arbor in a week. This time they will put him to sleep and see what this is growing and getting larger in his chest. The doctors are leaning towards bone cancer. The family is scared and anxiously waiting to hear what it is. I am not sure of the family's spiritual status. I told them I would be praying for him. I am specifically praying for this child to be cancer free and healthy, and if the family doesn't know God that God will use this scary time to draw them to HIM.

Judith Elizabeth Bailey – age 64, of Morrice, went home to her Lord, Jesus Christ, Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Perry Church of the Nazarene, 3100 West Ellsworth Road, Perry with Rev. Timothy Harmon officiating. Interment will take place at Union Home Cemetery, Maple Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Friday at Hillcrest Mausoleum Chapel, 1106 S. Washington, Owosso; Saturday from 10 AM to 11 AM at the church.

Judith was born in Lansing on March 17, 1945, the daughter of Lyle and Bernice Ward. She married Gerald Bailey on May 15, 1981 at the Olivet Baptist Church. Judith was a graduate of Eastern High School and attended Davenport College in Lansing. She loved scrapbooking and also loved to read. As a grandmother, she devoted her life to her three grandsons. Also special to her were her dogs, Sadie and Zoe.

She is survived by: husband, Gerald (JB); son, Scott Harkness; daughter, Nikki (Scott) Bindschatel; grandsons, Jaren, Jeremy, Jace Bindschatel; sister, Connie Zimmerman; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Robert and Sandy Bailey; nephews, Todd (Vicki) Zimmerman, Owen (Cathy) Bailey; nieces, Heather (Whitney) Thomas, Sheila (Allen) Winters, Tricia (Wayne) Bovenachen, Kimberly (James) Neal; as well as several loving aunts, uncles, cousins, grand nephews and grand nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert; and niece, Andrea Jo.

Memorials are suggested to either the American Cancer Society or the American Brain Tumor Association.

Funeral arrangements are being made by Mowen Funeral Home – William A. Scarlett Memorial Chapel in Owosso.

The Funeral will be on Friday, October 30th at 1:00 PM at Owosso Church of the Nazarene.

Internment will follow service at Oak Hill Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the Owosso Nazarene Community Center.

Update on Michelle's Cousin, Shane

Here’s a picture of our little guy who is on the prayer blog. His name is Shane but we call him “Shy”. He is Michelle’s cousin and they live in Atlanta, GA.

He is 8 years old and is always smiling. He was born with Cerebral Palsy, so he has been in and out of the hospital most of his short life.

This morning we have gotten the word that one of his lungs has collapsed, so things are not looking good for our little buddy.

Pray for Shy and his parents Debbi and Terry along with the whole family.

We just heard good news about Jesse Cooper (Crystal's husband). They were able to do a biopsy on his liver and the results came back negative for cancer...praise God! While riding on the back of a golf cart he passed out (he has diabetes and they think the black out was caused from that), fell backwards off the cart, and struck his head hard on the ground. He is hemorrhaging from the back of his head and he has blood on his brain, but he is talking. He is in ICU at Sparrow. He will have a repeat CAT scan tomorrow, and they will decide then whether or not to do surgery.

She had emergency surgery yesterday which went very well to remove her appendix and 8 inches of her bowel because there was a small tumor on her intestines. The doctor doesn’t think the removed tumor is cancerous but they are testing it to make sure. She will be at Memorial hospital recovering for about 5 days. Good Morning,

My mom was diagnosed on Friday 04/24/09 with a Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumor. The tumor was bigger than a golf ball in size. The tumor was located in the frontal lobe just above her right eye. Because this type of tumor is aggressive in nature and usually malignant, the neurosurgeons worked fast.

She had a craniotomy on Monday, 04/27/09 to remove the tumor. The surgeon stated he was able to get more than 95%. She will have some weakness on her left side, a change in personality and short term memory loss. We have already noticed some of these changes.

Mom will continue to be in the hospital for at least the rest of this week in the neurology intensive care unit. If all goes well, she will be moved to the step down unit later in the week.

We are currently waiting for the results from the pathology report to see what type of cells they are. This will determine how much radiation and chemotherapy she will receive.

Please pray for my mom and her new journey.

Baby Jonah is coming home! We will be picking him up in the morning (3/4) and finally taking him home to be with our family. Harper's Joy

What this child has given us cannot be taken away though his physical life can. He continues to share moments of pure joy and laughter, charisma and content. Our son is the bravest and strongest soul I have yet to encounter and I will continue to nurture that soul with the Lords help and praise God for each and every day - EACH and EVERY day, just as you all should. I believe that I have yet to feel real pain in cancer, for it has taught me the joy of life, of love, of real faith, and motherhood.

Harper's status remains the same, no new treatment options to cure cancer, just the pending miracle of faith where the Lord throws up his arms in surrender to us, Harper's prayer warriors, and says "Okay, although Harper has fulfilled his purpose, you can keep him!"

We have gotten to a good place in managing his GVHD, no more belly aches, just plain old diaper blow outs now, between six and eight a day. But as we walked down the hall tonight, Harpers pants saturated with dirty water and pieced french fries we talked with family about keeping our heads held high and Harper chimed in to say "Harper head, Mama head" I knew that he knew what that ment...it is a lesson on fortitude and stregnth that a two year old can teach the world!

Harper's skin is healing now, gone from a ghastly rash to more of a Benjimen Button glow...the dead rash is flaking off and its taken everything in me not to exfoliate his head as I wash my face each night. I am happy to have the softness of his bald head back in my arms and nuzzled in my neck.

Our arrival at Sparrow introduced the real notion of coming home, where Harper had not walked in two weeks, he eagerly staggers the hallways now. Those who knew us at Sparrow can understand the miles that have been logged on these two feet, just walking around, and around, and around...Harper is happy to be back on familiar ground and spends the better part of each day requesting to go on walks around, and around, and around to which we joyously comply.

Tatums wit continues to amaze me... As dad slept on the hospital couch, my children and I nestled awkwardly into bed and I began to cry...Tatum asked me "why are you crying mama," to which I honestly replied "just thinking about missing your brother honey," she said, "uh, he's right there!"

So thats it, he is right here, and the focus is RIGHT NOW...not tomorrow, not yesterday...but now. We are blessed. We are together. And we are most certainly loved! Thanks for listening.

Jason and I wanted to thank everyone for all of the prayers and support that you all gave us this week. It was a very tough time for us but knowing that we had God with us and all of you behind us, we were confident that I (Angie) and our precious little baby girl would be safe. You never know how much faith you have until the storm comes, this was a big storm for us, but we had to and did believe that God would protect us all. Thursday’s surgery couldn’t have gone better, it is amazing to us the power and protection God provided the doctors all throughout the afternoon and time of recovery. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we can receive, and again, we want to say thank you for it. If God brings you to it, I believe He will bring you through it. We are so excited and feel extremely blessed by this tiny miracle that is being prepared for this world. In just 5 short more months we can all meet this little girl that God has protected and has given to us. We are so excited to be parents! J

Update on Baby Jonah

Hello Family and Friends,

Thank you for all of your messages and prayers. I wanted to send out a quick update about our little Jonah. They took him off of the ventilator today! They also took out the two tiny tubes that went into his cord, which meant that I could finally hold him! Now he is receiving the lowest amount of oxygen possible through his nasal passages and has an IV with nutrients flowing through until his milk intake is greater. That is another improvement; he is eating well and they are upping the amount at each feeding. This has been a terrible week and he got worse before he started getting better, but within the past 24 hours, he has taken huge strides. We're hoping that he'll be able to come home soon. God is definitely in control~

PRAISE GOD! Emily McCall just called and said that Jonah has been completely taken off the ventilator. The nurses have been feeding him every 3 hours and he’s been fine with accepting the food. The doctors are hoping to take the oxygen tubes out of his nose & belly button tonight so Emily & Chris can finally hold Jonah tomorrow! J Yeah! Thank you for your prayers for this young family.

Update on Harper

I would like to think that I had just the right words to describe what is happening now, but unfortunately I do not. The fact of the matter is our son is falling victim to his cancer. The last couple of weeks have indicated a failing prognosis...graph versus host disease (gvhd) has set in which gave us a glimmer of hope, scary hope, but ultimately we were thinking that if the gvhd could attack his body it would surely attack the leukemia, however, that is not what is happening. The daily lab work indicated yesterday that his blast count was at 78% on the peripheral slide, and today it has risen to 91%...prognosis-death. So even with the active graph versus host, the cancer is winning. He has been in some pain because the gvhd is attacking skin and gut cells giving him extreme diarrea and a head to toe rash that is worst than anything I have ever seen. The doctor told us, per my request, that when hope was lost he would say...today he said.

I have asked that we be transported back to sparrow for comfort care until he takes that stairway to heaven. I am not scared for Harper but for those that remain here, like brian, tatum and all the grandparents. The Lord will care for my son and just maybe he will heal him on earth but certainly in heaven i know. I will not write off the possibility of a miracle, but that is the only thing that will save Harper now.

Hello All,

Our beautiful baby boy was born yesterday at 11:24 AM. Jonah Christopher was born weighing 6 pounds 8 ounces, 19 1/2 inches long! (The average for his gestation is only about 5 pounds). It was a really rough labor and delivery and he arrived 5 weeks early. Jonah seemed to have a good prognosis and was crying a good strong cry, but then they realized that he had fluid in his lungs. Since the fluid could lead to pneumonia, they needed to give him an IV to administer antibiotics. Our hospital here in Owosso could not get the port in since his veins are so tiny. Finally they decided that he needed Hurley's NICU support. They called in their team and then hauled him off to Hurley. I was discharged only hours after giving birth.
Now at Hurley, he is fighting to recover from trying so hard to breath on his own while at Memorial; those few hours really set him back. He now has 2 tiny tubes, the size of a tiny wire, going into his umbilical cord. One is to administer the antibiotics and the other has a port on it that draws blood whenever they need to do lab work; that way they won't have to prick him each time. He also has a breathing tube to help him get those lungs stronger. We are not able to hold him at this time since he needs to put all of his energy into getting his lungs functioning better. The doctors don't want to put a time line on anything, but we are guessing that it'll be about 2 weeks until he can come home to be with us.

We've been driving back and forth to Hurley in Flint while trying to make sure that Gracie doesn't get shorted at the same time We aren't able to take Gracie with us to the NICU because she is under the age of 3. My mom is a God send and is taking time off work to be here with us to help.

This has been a heck of a month for us, but I thank God for getting us through it. It could have been so much worse. I am thankful that we got through that time of bed rest and got him to the 35 week mark. I know that any gains that he is making is through the work of God.

Jonah is so sweet. We love him so very much already. Please keep him in your prayers.

Angie did amazing during her surgery on Thursday. The doctors were able to go in and remove the cyst properly. Praise God it is not cancerous ... and the baby girl is okay too. They were able to hear her little heartbeat multiple times while in the hospital this weekend. Jason was able to bring them home on Sunday afternoon. She is recovering but still really sore. Thank you so much for the thoughts & prayers...it is what sustained them both through this whole process.

Dennis is doing much better, he was up a couple of times for 15 minutes each on Friday and an hour on Saturday and Sunday!

The results from the CT should be in Monday. His continued improvement may mean he can soon go home to finish recuperating.

He does continue to suffer from nightmares (pain meds?). Please pray for relief from these nightmares.

Bill had a heart cauterization and they found a 90% blockage around his heart and put stints in and then found an 80% blockage in the same area as his previous bypass so the doctors put a stint in there too. He was kept over night at Ingham Medical and should be sent home today to recover. Keep Joyce (wife) and his family in your prayers.

Update on Harper

Thank you to all of you that have come together for Harper's healing! He will perservere! Harper is a testiment to the power of prayer and the stregnth of a child.

Although I have been hesitant to post, trying to avoid writing out all of the gory details, I am here to encourage the rest of you now! Our child underwent a repeat bone marrow aspiration today and the blast count has once again shocked the physicians...he has gone from 40% to 21% - Praise Jesus!

The joy of cancer is the constant rebirth of hope and faith. It is a bittersweet experience and by no means am I happy to be here but there is something to be said for the life experience.

We must understand the overall aggressiveness of Harper's cancer...
He relapsed within the first year of diagnosis
He has complex cytogenetics that complicate the prognosis
He has relapsed at day 14 post transplant which is unheard of
and he relapsed at 40% blasts which in our world is severe
His cancer is obviously resistant to high dose chemo drugs
He continues to require therapy that can only complicate the overall health of his young body
The doctors have verbalized more than once the dark pronosis given the latest developments...BUT...

He is strong
He is couragous
He is resilent
He is loved
He laughs
He plays
He dances like no man has ever danced before!
He is young
He is unaware of the torment
He is unaware of the statistics
He is unaware of the fear
He walks with God and Jesus, surrounded by positive energy
He is a fighter and
WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP!

Please, I only believe that Harper is where is at today because of the energy lifting him in healing! Continue with all your might to pray for his recovery, his strength, and his cure!

Harper will begin a regimend of chemotherapy on Friday with plans for the future...possibly a clinical trial in Maryland at the National Cancer Institute...or a repeat transplant with two units of cord blood. We have a plan and that is all I need to continue to fight.

I will honestly say that I, personally, have surrendered to the fact that Harper's cancer is intense and powerful and could ultimately triumph...but I will not give up! Prayer is more powerful...keep going - don't slow down - we are building a miracle!

Update Dennis Byers

The results of the angioplasty, have uncovered a rare condition, which is basically a split in an artery in the neck region. Dennis has been placed in a neck sling, to restrict head movement. The doctor said that "God likes this man". While we were all praying for a Wednesday angioplasty, God knew better; the one man most able to see the correct diagnosis would have been out of the area by then.

This specialist happened to hear about Denny's case and decided to see if he could be of help. He ran some more tests and found out that he never had any aneurysms, but a tear in the main artery that controls motor function. He said he is surprised Denny is still alive and he has only seen three cases of this in his career. He said Denny has to be flat on his back with a brace for 4 weeks to see if it will heal itself. If it does not he will have to have a stint put in which requires an extremely risky surgery which the doctor does not want to perform unless absolutely necessary.

If this were to rupture again it would probably be the last time. They are somewhat unprepared for this result, there is no magic surgery; there will be some serious consultation, before they begin a treatment plan. Dennis will likely remain in the hospital for at least 4 weeks.

The doctors believe that this is the result of physical trauma, but Denny does not remember anything. His mother remembered him saying he had slipped on the ice carrying heavy equipment into the church for Sunday's concert a week earlier. So maybe a bit of whiplash?? But we are speculating.

Please pray for God's wisdom as the doctors develop a treatment plan. Pray for continued full healing and strengthening of this artery.

Special prayer is coveted for Julie, Tony, Benjamin, and Olivia, in addition for his mom, Diana Webster.

Here are notes shared by George McBride (Julie's dad), as she shared them with him by phone from the hospital. I know they're somewhat lengthy, but show the progression of diagnosis. The additional news is that the angiogram is scheduled for 3 p.m. today, so we certainly covet your prayers for him today. We haven't heard anything new this morning. Diana will undoubted share more later.

George's notes cover a couple entries during the course of the day.

Doctors says to plan on at least 21 days in the hospital.

The bleeding has stopped. There is some danger, of stroke while the blood pool is reabsorbed.
There is another aneurysm at the base of the brain that has not burst. They may be treating this with a coil implant; this would strengthen the weakened vessel wall. The doctor who would do this is the same one who developed the procedure. PTL
There is an abnormality (heart blockage?) in his EKG a cardiologist is being consulted. Probably just a hick-up but needs to be checked out.
No brain damage etc.
Due to his otherwise excellent health and catching this early, there is expectation for a complete recovery, without residual effects.
More testing ahead;

We have just heard from Don Byers on his brother’s condition about 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26^th.

PRAISE GOD! Denny is alert & the bleeding has stopped. He is experiencing pain but it is normal for the circumstances. The doctors/nurses are monitoring & observing him today on his condition. He is still in the ICU at Hurley Medical and will be there up to 3 weeks.

Prayer for Dennis Byers of Stronghold

When Dennis felt faint, intense headache and neck pain, he was singing with Stronghold at Owosso Nazarene, with nausea and vomiting about an hour later. At his inlaws home he continued to be sick and was taken to Owosso's Memorial Healthcare where a CTscan indicated a brain aneurysm, with bleeding.

He was transferred to Hurley Hospital in Flint to the Neuro ICU, where they continued pain and nausea IVs throughout the night. Basically they intend to do another MRI this morning, and then the doctor can compare that with the one from Memorial to determine the extent of the aneurysm and bleeding.

Last night Dennis, despite the headache pain, was awake and showing his usual signs of humor. Lots of friends are praying for him, and he said that "being in God's hands is the best place to be."

We really can't say what the long-term prognosis is right now. Diana and I will be taking Julie (Denny's wife) to visit today. We'll be anxious to hear what his situation is then. Julie and their three children spent the night at her parent's home in Owosso.

We appreciate your prayers and know that they are heard by our Father in heaven. Dennis and his family knows that his life is always in God's hands and that Romans 8:28 is just as true today as it was yesterday at this time.

We'll try to keep you posted on Dennis' condition.

The doctors are putting a drain in to remove the excess vial and she will probably be at the hospital in Reno for a night or two. Continue to pray for her & Ben. The bone marrow check done on Harper Gibson (2 years old) came back with 40% blasts. Harper was initially diagnosed more than a year ago at 14% percent blasts.

Please open your heart and mind and soul and let the healing of God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost flow to Harper from your requests. Right now!

Update on Milt Yates

Milt is improving. Halleluiah! Praise to the Lord! They have removed the pacemaker and his heart is working fine, on its own. (I forgot to include in last e-mail- his heart had stopped twice). His sugar is normal (it went up to 500 yesterday) His blood pressure is normal ( it was very low yesterday) His white blood cells are still high, but that is to be expected. Fever is 100. They can’t tell if he is having seizures so he is going to have an EEG to check that, but nothing visible. The nurses admitted to Susan (His Wife) that they are surprised that Milt was still here when they came back to work today. (Not a Surprise to Me) Amen! Our God is a BIG GOD! The type of infection Milt has is streptococci pneumonia meningitis. Milt is not conscious, but he made it through the night and is stable. They don’t know if there is any permanent damage. The doctors did say a common occurrence is loss of hearing. Susan joked that now she can get more puppies, (just got one before Christmas) because Milt won’t be able to hear the barking. Susan is obviously feeling much better.

Dear Church Family,

I just got a call that our step brother in law Milt Yates is in intensive care as of this morning they live up near Cadillac area.

He has been diagnosed with Spinal meningitides. He has been having some seizures since being admitted and they are keeping him very sedative. The Dr’s say he is in very serious condition and could die any minute. We are not accepting that diagnoses. We have a God that is our Mighty Healer and the family is putting their faith and trust in Him. They have called his entire children home. The family is praying for a miracle.

Prayer for Jones/Bulemore Family

Judy Jones had back surgery and is having a long recovery. Judy’s husband, Lynn Jones was not feeling so well so his daughter, Julie, took him to the hospital. The doctors did a bunch of scans and found cancer in his chest, liver & intestines. The family just heard word today that they will be able to treat the tumors on Lynn’s liver and they are still running tests to see if the cancer is in his bones. The Jones couple has been long time friends & members of the Owosso Church of the Nazarene but currently reside in Palmdale, California. Their son, Jody, is flying to California at the end of the week to be with his parents.

Peggy Bulemore had knee surgery this week and is home recovering. Please pray for the strength & healing in her knee.

Jim was exposed to hepatitis awhile back and is currently being hospitalized with a blood related problem. A lot of tests are being done and his guardian/sister stated that, “He is a blessing & miracle because he has lived this long.” His illness is pretty serious…in fact Hospice was called in on Friday, December 12^th.
